A 71-year-old Winthrop man died Thursday morning in a head-on collision on Route 202 in Winthrop.
Police Chief Joseph Young said Bobbie Reeves, 39, of Winthrop was driving east in a sports utility vehicle around 7:30 a.m. when she crossed the center lane. The SUV hit a pickup truck driven by Richard Leighton, Young said.
Leighton died at the scene. Reeves was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Her condition was not available early Thursday afternoon.
Young said it was raining and the road was slushy at the time. The crash happened at the intersection of 202 and Horseshoe Road.
A section of the road was closed for part of the morning while police investigated.
This is the fourth deadly crash on 202 in Winthrop in five years.
According to crash reports from the Maine Department of Transportation, there have been 231 crashes on 202 in Winthrop since January 2009 and 152 injuries, including deaths.
