Members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Greenport Rescue and Fire squads respond to a car accident on Route 23 at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The driver was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries.

A man was hospitalized Thursday morning following a motor-vehicle accident on Route 23 in Greenport, just east of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.


The sole occupant of the 1997 Saturn ION sedan spun out on slippery road conditions while changing lanes heading westbound toward the bridge near the Mount Merino Road intersection, Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett said.
