An Alexandria man died Thursday morning after being struck by a car while crossing U.S. 1 near Lorton, police said.

Police said 68-year-old William Godfrey, Jr. was crossing U.S. 1 near its intersection with Backlick Road when he was struck by a 2005 Honda Civic driving north on U.S. 1.

Godfrey was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda driver, a 58-year-old woman, was not injured.

Police said the crash is still under investigation, but it appears Godfrey was under the influence of alcohol. Police do not believe the driver was speeding or was under the influence of alcohol.
