GREAT FALLS – One person has died after a train hit a pickup truck southeast of Great Falls on Friday afternoon.

The crash happened near mile marker 2 on Stockett Road near Sand Coulee.

Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards says the pickup truck was heading north toward US Highway 87 when the 3-car train and the truck collided.

The train pushed the truck about 200 yards down the track.

Sheriff Edwards says the driver of the pickup – believed to be the only person in the truck – died in the incident.

He says Montana Highway Patrol and the railroad company will be investigating: “BNSF comes out, anything like this they have to make sure the tracks are in stable operating condition so it’s safe. There is a lot of debris, parts up and down the track.”

Sheriff Edwards is not releasing the name of the victim yet.
