Three-vehicle crash injures one at Route 61-54 intersection

STRONG – A car, pickup and van were involved in an accident amid icy road conditions before 9 this morning at Routes 61 and 54.

The van went out of control and ended up on a snowbank and atop a guard rail while the pickup and car collide almost head-on in the southbound lane of Route 61.

David Stamets, the investigating officer for Mount Carmel Township, said there was one injury,

Freezing rain is believed to have caused this and other crashes throughout the area this morning. Interstate 81 in the Pine Grove area is shut down because of multiple accidents, and there are reprots of the same on Interstate 80 in central Pennsylvania. PennDOT has reduced speed limits on I-80 and I-180 in central Pa.

The National Weather Service has a freezing rain advisory in effect until noon.
