Trooper-Involved Crash Shuts Down Northbound Blue Route

BROOMALL, Pa. -

All lanes on the northbound Blue Route are shut down Thursday morning after a Pennsylvania State Police trooper was involved in a crash.

The crash on Interstate 476 was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. at Broomall/Upper Darby exit 9 for West Chester Pike (Pa. Route 3).

SkyFOX flew over the scene and showed what appears to be involved were two cars, a box truck that overturned on one of them, and the trooper’s cruiser, with rear-end damage and its yellow lights flashing.

At least one person was seen being extricated and wheeled away from the crash scene on a stretcher. We’re told one person is hospitalized, but there was no word on the extent of the injury.

The closure begins at U.S. Route 1, which is exit 5 Lima/Springfield, and we’re hearing this is going to be with us for a while. By 6:20 a.m., traffic was backed up to exit 4.

Routes 320 or 252 are going to be your alternate routes.

We’re getting a lot of reports of black ice on the roads this morning, so take your time getting to your destination.
