Victims of two Route 146 fatal crashes ID’d

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) – Two people were killed in two separate car crashes that occurred within hours of one another on the same local road Wednesday afternoon.

The two crashes occurred on Route 146, the first around 1:22 p.m. in North Providence and the second just hours later in Lincoln.

The first crash, according to Rhode Island State Police, was caused by a pedestrian walking into the right travel lane of Route 146 South. Police say David Salois, 28, of Burrillville was hit by a tractor trailer. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital but died shortly thereafter.

The driver operating the truck that hit the pedestrian is not facing any charges. Rhode Island State Police Captain Robert Wall said the driver “had no time to react” and was “very shaken up” when interviewed.

The second accident, police say, involved an woman driving the wrong way on Route 146 South. Marie Simone, 89, of Warwick crashed head-on into a pickup truck, police said. Lincoln firefighters were forced to use the Jaws of Life to remove her from her badly damaged car.

Rescue crews attempted to administer emergency CPR on the victim, but Simone was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
